I love threads, traces, I went to a dance network event at Hall for Cornwall some months ago and at the end as we went around mentioned this residency. From that Emily Dobson www.emilydobson.co.uk contacted me and we met for a nice chat and a cup of tea, she then came to our last afternoon of the residency to play with photography ( she was recommended to us by Shallal's old friend and supporter Steve Tanner) and now we have these lovely photos, and i continue to call mine snapshots!! Years ago i talked to someone about what Shallal did and they said start 'blogging', otherwise no-one ( especially funders) knows what you do, so now i record with snapshots as well, but really good photos are a treat and say it even better, capturing moments with stories and in an art form...thank you Emily and here's to more chances to work together! Photo tour! for those who were unable to come. We had 17 visitors ( many people were unable to come, as we clashed with Curious Nights). It was a good event with lots of discussion, insights and spontaneous planning - each residency has had a substantial input into our next steps and a new potential international project is brewing from the last week of the residency. The macbook showed film by Star and the collective and Eddie, Stuart and George. I am looking forward to Helston Musuem Gallery Showing 3 - 16 January when we can showcase the physical cross art form collaborations more including: words from Jo Lumber, ladder and music with Pep, Colin, Kerry and Delpha and Nigel, the Collective and more, date coming soon...... We ended up juggling time, to cover another group, and so Lou was there in the morning filming and Tom and i came in the afternoon. Tina joined us for the first time from Shallal Dance Theatre and Sally returned! in the morning Elly came by for an hour and in the afternoon Jo Lumber dropped in and Tom stayed to play! - we had worked together at Express Yourself in the morning. So full on and Tina suggested a big group piece it ended up Footprints and Colin was amused as until then he had not noticed the title of the Residency! come and see it tomorrow 3- 6pm Showing it looks good hung on the walls as you come in - sadly no photos of it here! Second day with artists Janice and Jonathan joining us, and Colin and i having fun! Janice is from our new Liskeard group and Jonathan from Shallal Dance Theatre. Janice has trained as an artist and her work includes in the enviroment and from paint to installations, she performed recently at Bodmin Dance Platform. Jonathan won art competitions when he was younger, and has been in SDT for a few years now and is a strong actor/performer. Luke (9) was there for the day and Zoe and Sam as usual working so well across all ideas. We started moving and mark making, drawing on the walls to music and then the floor joined in, and inks in the afternoon and longer brushes etc. I am excited to try to develop an ongoing project from this inspiration with an international reach, as i have been put in touch with Helona Ruli from Albania. We shall see what happens but to film work in a space, responses, cross art forms, share it on line...we shall see! |
AuthorWe hope that all Shallal Studio artists will add to this blog.
