6/3/2015

On 1st July 2015 Shallal Studios will begin a three month residency at Porthmeor in St Ives for three whole summer months.  Porthmeor is a fantastic artists studios right on the beach with beautiful natural light, and we excited to be able to offer vulnerable artists properly mentored time with trained artists where they can build skills and progress their practice over a sustained period. This really is an amazing opportunity for Shallal's inclusive studio, and we would like to thank:

Arts Council England
Cloth of Gold South West for donating art materials
Falmouth University for donating art materials
A private donor who has provided crucial match funding

We are now getting excited about the creative possibilities.
Photos to follow as soon as we get into the studio!

"Singing the song of both omen and amen”
Seamus Heaney

Laura Menzies and Jim Carter present a joint exhibition at the Spring Gallery concerned with omens and their relationship to transformative processes in nature and the human psyche.  Part dialogue between painting and sculpture, part individual interpretation, this new work has roots in a binary world that includes meditations on gender, the emotional life and the sacred.

Laura Menzies’ work operates as a personal register of marks formed from constructs of memory, emotion and indirect references to place. Her paintings suggest a world that we all encounter visually or sensationally, and are imbued with a strong sense of time, depth and ambiguity.

Jim Carter is a sculptor and composer working with wood, found objects and natural materials to explore relationships between human, animal and landscape. His work, drawn from story and myth, has been linked to alchemy and natural cycles of disintegration and renewal.

Interesting opportunity to post, but apologies for their labelling, on our other blog I have often spoken about 'people' first.
However an interesting opportunity and worth getting the word out about it, also I am not very fond of competitions, although many people respond well to them.
So see below:
