So far in the residency, apart from some of us who are floating through, are artist and printmaker Georgie Finn, http://georgiefinn.weebly.com/ we welcome her all the way from the East of England Essex and Sam While for the last week of July with Anna and Annis visiting.
Sam is nearing the end of an exciting project

Anna and Annis recently sold another painting "The Other One"that makes 2 now from the Studio challenge exhibition. Joseph has also sold his painting - on far left.
It reminded me a little of Bob Bourne's paintings in it's flat considered colours,

We used to live near him in Newlyn.

I'm getting nostalgic now and Antony Frost http://www.opus-art.com/the-artists/artist/anthony-frost
used to have a studio in a garden across the road, which was then used by Jeremy le Grice.
Jeremy was a large ebullient character http://www.westernmorningnews.co.uk/Larger-life-painter-Cornwall-sea/story-16710686-detail/story.html
and once enthusiastically encouraged me to carry my latest baby down to see his work before it was sent off to to an exhibition. I wasn't feeling very pro art at the time and wondering what was the point, I walked in and was confronted by a breathtaking painting. All deep worked blues with tiny marks for the harbour mouth and a boat leaving.
It captured the extraordinary poignancy when the large fishing boats leave, they would sound their horn as they left the harbour mouth and suddenly you would think 'this is for their loved ones and they may not return.'
On the way to Mousehole only a mile away we would pass the Penlee Lifeboat Station memorial.

Dear Artists and Friends,
Shallal Studios are pleased and excited to have a Residency at Porthmeor Studios, St Ives this summer July - September.

The residency allows us to continue to learn and build on the skills and opportunities that we wish to offer through inclusive visual arts practice, and we wish to open it to as many artists as possible.
The focus is on 2D practice: drawing, painting, printing, collage etc.
(In October we will be in residency at Back Lane West, Redruth, where we can offer more 3D, exploratory, cross art form, mixed media opportunities in that fantastic space - so please book in those ideas for that space.)

The artists in residence are Laura Menzies, Lou Brett - also project manager and Melanie Young in September.

I am putting together the timetable for the residency and would like to offer you the opportunity to use the space.
Please contact me if you are interested and give possible times and dates that you would like.

The studio can accommodate 3 - 4 artists at a time.
There are 4 Open Studios dates 16, 19, 20 & 23 September in St Ives Festival when work can be shown.

Look forward to hearing from you.

love Jo

Colin and Joseph share a love of Manchester City Football Club. These paintings are a real labour of love and they are now contacting Jo Hart. We have watched them working on these for months now.
(Joseph's brothers and Dad support Manchester United, so a divided household when it comes to football.)

Good news that the exhibition has been extended to 14th May, and 2 paintings sold so far.

Next, planning for Porthmeor Studios Residency and the offer of a Benefit organised by Jane Tressider,

so we look forward to a lovely summer harp recital, and we are investigating intimate creative spaces with good acoustics.
